It was another great day! Also, another new course. The meet was moved to the Middle School and will remain there for future years. The course was flat, but rather wet (therefore slower) after an all-day rain the day before. This meet was a welcome chance for all the runners to compete against their own age. The 6th graders ran very well. It was the first time they raced a mile since the time trial over one month earlier. It is so fun to see the huge improvement! Ryan Weispfenning cut 40 seconds, Eric Schommer cut 38 seconds and John Jagiella cut 1:12! That is a lot of time for a mile. Ryan earned a medal for his 2nd place finish while Eric earned a ribbon. John had a great race to come close to a ribbon and the top 1/2 of the field. A time comparison for the 7th grade is the Monticello meet where they raced the same distance. Jacob McLain and Zach Garberg both cut 22 seconds. Tyler Steele, Jacob and Zac Floeder all earned ribbons. After finishing last a year ago at this meet, Zac finished in the top 1/4 today! In the 8th grade race, Eric Schmidt led the way with a meet record, breaking the old record by 20 seconds. Earning ribbons were Evan Borscheid and Nick Clobes. Mark Nissen has ran very well lately as he earned a 12th place finish. Andrew Paulsen made the biggest improvement from last year as he cut 10 places in a meet that was more competitive this year. Leading the 9th grade team was Lukus Klawitter as he earned a medal with his 3rd place finish. Andrew Carlson earned a ribbon while Sean Ahlers was close. Again, another great day by this exceptional group as they earned another team title. The scoring for this meet was somewhat unusual in that the top 5 runners in all races combined counted for the team score. The next meet is at Buffalo on Thursday. Another chance for this group to continue their awesome racing!
